In Andy’s eyes, there isn’t anything much more rewarding than developing a successful breeding program. Andy has spent countless hours researching and studying various performance lines and successful crosses. Through his efforts, he has developed a group broodmares that are not only beautiful and pleasant, but proven producers. Andy loves his ladies and enjoys watching the foals be born and develop into talented show, ranch or rope horses. Around here, our horses do it all.
A Red Belle Pepper
Belle is a 2005 Sorrel Quarter Horse with a big hip and beautiful head. She was shown by Randy Paul at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity. Unfortunately an injury ended her career early. Fortunately for us, Andy spotted the mare a mile away and knew he had to have her. With only two colts of performing age, she has already produced nearly $20,000 in earnings and some very nice show horses.

We look forward to watching her younger colts make their way to the show pen. She currently has a 5-year-old by Desires Little Rex that will is ready to be shown in cowhorse derbies, a 3-year-old colt by Travelin Jonez who is on track for the 2017 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, a 2-year-old filly also by Travelin Jonez, and an absolutely stunning yearling sorrel colt by This One Time.
Demi, owned by Orlando and Angela Gonzalez, is a 2008 Red Roan Quarter Horse that catches absolutely everyone’s eye. With very limited showing, she has garnered plenty of attention and a few titles. Demi is the kind of horse that can do it all. She has no problem marking a 144 in the cutting pen, completing a day’s worth of work on the ranch, or packing a beginner around the arena. She has as much personality as talent, and that is held with high regard around the Kurtz Ranch.

Her only foal as of now is a 4-year-old filly by WR This Cats Smart who will be shown in NCHA competition. She looks like her momma (except with a blonde mane and tail), and shows the same promise on a cow.
Demi is returning to the Non Pro cutting show pen with owner Orlando Gonzalez and has an embryo foal by Dual Rey due in Spring 2017.
Talk about stunning! Annabelle is the quintessential looking cowhorse – big-hipped, pretty headed, full of grit, and more talent than she knows what to do with. She has been a ranch favorite since she was purchased as a 2-year-old, which is why her first foal hit the ground in 2015; nobody could stop riding her long enough to get her bred.
Annabelle has proven to be a successful multi-discipline performer. She has done well in working cowhorse, reining, and ranch horse versatility. Not to mention, she is a great head horse and can go all day.
Annabelle is a 2005 Gray Quarter Horse and a full sibling in blood to Amanda Stargun, who earned more than $92,000 and has produced more than $264,000.
Miss Silver Pistol
We can't say a single bad thing about her 2015 colt by A Shiner Named Sioux - big, strong, fancy, and palomino. Annabelle recently foaled a 2016 bay filly by Very Smart Remedy, earner of $100k+ and producer of $1 million+.
One Gray Freckle
One Gray Freckle, or "Gretta" as we like to call her, is the newest addition to our broodmare band. Adding a talented own daughter of One Time Pepto to our list of mares has been a bucket list item for a while now. Gretta instantly caught our eye and relocated from Texas to Colorado as quickly as we could get her.
One Gray Freckle was bred, owned and eventually shown by Michelle Cowan in the 2013 NCHA Futurity. Unfortunately, her career was cut short due to an injury.
Gretta is out of Little Gray Freckles, an AQHA Cutting World Champion and earner of more than $76k, along with several other titles. She is currently in foal to Catty Hawk, earner of more than $235k, for a 2016 foal.

Zumbar Rojo may be the only Paint Horse on the ranch, but she brings a wealth of talented, impressive wins, and the biggest heart around to the ranch. More affectionately known as "Bullseye", the 2005 Sorrel Tobiano mare by West Coast Whiz proved successful in all divisions of the reining show pen from Open, to Non-Pro, to Youth. Bullseye has two APHA World Championships to her name - 2012 Senior and 2012 Amateur - along with several other wins including making the Open Finals at the 2010 NRBC and winning the 2008 Southwest Reining Futurity Limited Open.
Along her journey, Bullseye added a wealth of wins in the Open, Non-Pro, Rookie, Green Reiner, and Youth ancillary classes. More importantly, she won the heart of everyone who got to know her and/or watched her show. She is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of horse that will always find a home at the Kurtz Ranch.
